Curving the horizon.
Until recently, the horizon for dormant stocks of materials, production waste, or unsold goods in the fashion and luxury industries was merely a line.
These materials had only one life cycle.
We now need to double our ingenuity to recover what exists, transforming these materials into valuable objects once again.
Our work begins here: at the intersection of creation and innovation. Our Research & Development teams, along with our recovery experts, are both responsible for and skilled in giving a second life to your unused resources.
The data that doesn’t add up
1/10
Of the 715,000 tons of clothing put on the market in France over the course of a year, less than one-tenth of a ton is recycled, with only a tiny fraction being processed within France, according to Refashion.
While this ratio is unfortunately replicable in other countries, it is not a fatality. The reasons for the low rate of recovery are numerous, including the difficulty of obtaining a homogeneous and high-quality material source.
This is a mission for L’Atelier des Matières.
Solutions Made to Measure
Unraveling the recycled thread of upcycled finished products: want to see how?
A story co-written with Quiksilver
• ANALYSE: Identify their available resources for upcycling.
• OPTIMISE: Aim for the highest possible upcycling value.
• ORCHESTRATE: From collecting the material source to delivering the new regenerated material, we managed the entire transformation chain with our network of French industrial partners.

Moving towards scaling up.
According to Mathieu Clément, Regional Merchandiser Snow & Outdoor at Quiksilver and Sustainable Development Project Manager:
“This project led Quiksilver to work closely with the logistics and inventory teams, who have since encountered other similar cases. It marks the beginning of an internal restructuring to reinvent stock management related to quality issues and end-of-life inventories, allowing us to tackle more within the group. The goal is to create a new supply chain with internal resources. The road is still long, but new projects are already in preparation!”
Circular collections
The Principio Poly is a thread made from multi-composition garment sources. Its Latin name means “Origin,” and it is one of the first threads developed by L’Atelier des Matières!
Thanks to the meticulous color sorting carried out by our recovery specialists, it is also available in raspberry, light gray, green, ecru, and pastel pink.
All the threads available in L’Atelier des Matières catalog can be used for the production of private label products
